Beatles: Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band 50th Anniversary Edition

$19.95

Widely considered the Beatles greatest album as well as one of the greatest albums of all time, may we introduce to you Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band 50th Anniversary Edition.  Originally released in 1967, it was the eighth studio album recorded by the Beatles and spent 27 weeks as the # 1 album in the UK and 15 weeks as # 1 in the US.  It was voted album of the year in 1968, the first rock album to receive that honor.  In 2012 Rolling Stone Magazine voted Sgt. Pepper's the greatest album of all time

In late 1966 Paul McCartney had an idea for for a song involving an Edwardian military band that formed the impetus of the Sgt. Pepper concept.  After recording the title track, "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band", in early 1967, McCartney suggested that the Beatles should release an entire album representing a performance by the fictional Sgt. Pepper band as this alter ego group would give them the freedom to experiment musically.  Sgt. Pepper is regarded as an early concept album that continued the artistic maturation seen on the Beatles' preceding releases.  An important work of British psychedelia, the album incorporates a range of stylistic influences including vaudeville, circus, music hall, avant-garde and Western and Indian classical music.

The Anniversary Edition, released in 2017, contains 2 CDs.  The original 1967 version was mixed as a mono album with all care and attention with the Beatles present for all the mixes.  Yet the stereo album that most people listen to today was mixed very quickly without the Beatles at the sessions.  George Martin's son, Giles, was brought in to remix the anniversary edition and aiming for a “3-D mono” rendition it does not disappoint.  Includes all original tracks such as Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, With a Little Help from My Friends, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, Getting Better, When I'm Sixty Four, A Day in the Life, etc. and numerous outtakes of the originals.  Great beach, or anywhere, music.
