International Surfing Day

by Bill Davis

This Saturday, 6/16, is International Surfing Day which "celebrates the sport of surfing, surfing lifestyle and the sustainability of ocean resources".  Established in 2005 by the Surfrider Foundation and now defunct Surfing Magazine, International Surfing day is intended to grow participation in the sport of surfing as well as to clean up and protect the beaches and oceans where people surf.

Given BeachNecessities.com's focus is "to ensure that the beaches where our products will be used will be there for future generations to appreciate and use", International Surfing Day sounds like a great excuse to head to your local beach (like we really need a reason).  Scroll down to the Event Locator for a list of activities here in the US as well as other countries around the world that might be in your neighborhood.  And if the spirit of International Surfing Day overtakes you, feel free to make a contribution at Surfrider Foundation's website.
