World Water Day 2018 - Thursday, March 22

by Bill Davis

Giving freshwater some time in the spotlight, as opposed to the ocean, this Thursday, March 22, is World Water Day.  World Water Day is an annual event that is coordinated by UN Water and has been held on March 22nd since 1993.  This year's theme is Nature for Water which explores how we can use nature to overcome the water challenges of the 21st century.

World Water Day is an international observance day. It is meant to inspire people around the world to learn more about water-related issues, tell others about these issues and take action to make a difference, particularly in developing countries.  The primary reason for this is the global water crisis that the planet is experiencing and our need to continue to build awareness of this.  And to further recognize this issue the UN will officially announce on March 22 that 2018 - 2028 is the International Decade for Action: Water for Sustainable Development.  As a result, this article suggesting Why every day should be World Water Day is worth reading through.

Hope everyone enjoys this Thursday and takes a little time, at least 5 minutes, to reflect on the current state of the world's freshwater supply and what he / she can do to contribute to its continued well being.  And if you are inclined to make a financial donation for / on World Water Day, while there are many worthy organizations to consider, we at BeachNecessities.com would suggest Water.org.
