The island of Key West is about 4 miles long and 1 mile wide so a total land area of ~4.2 square miles which isn't very big physically, but it's HUGE in the hearts of everyone who loves it's tropical setting and Jimmy Buffet.  Also known as the micronation Conch Republic, this name emerged when Key West declared it's independence from the US and "seceded" on April 23. 1982.  Since then, the Conch Republic celebrates Independence Day every April 23 as part of a week-long festival of activities and is one of the best times to visit Key West (there really isn't ever a bad time).
