Given the Cascadia Subduction Zone, caused when the Juan de Fuca plate is shoved below the North American plate, stretches from British Columbia to northern California, if a large enough earthquake happens the Oregon coast is susceptible to tsunamis and this Leaving Tsunami Hazard Zone Sign Coaster shows the route to safety.

These signs are dotted all over the Oregon coast and remind everyone of the ever present power of the ocean and Mother Nature.  If a Cascadia tusnami develops, it will reach the Oregon coast within 15 - 20 minutes.  The last tsunami generated by a Cascadia zone earthquake happened in 1700 and and left an indelible mark in Native Tribal legends.  Based on historical precedence, the frequency of Cascadia tusnamis occurs roughly every 250 - 500 years.
